We are looking for Project Managers and Project Officers to deliver practical, evidence-based work that protects and restores the River Dee. These roles sit at the heart of our conservation delivery, working with landowners, fishing clubs, communities and partner organisations to improve the health of this nationally important river.

Project Managers will take responsibility for the planning, coordination and delivery of a suite of projects. This includes overseeing staff and volunteers, managing budgets, procurement and risk, ensuring health and safety procedures are implemented, and delivering work in line with the best available scientific knowledge and policy guidance. They will report progress to the Head of Project Delivery & Monitoring and ensure all funder requirements are met.

Project Officers will work directly across the Dee catchment to identify, design and deliver habitat restoration and water quality improvement projects. This includes working with landowners and fishing clubs, preparing and managing capital interventions, carrying out monitoring activities such as electrofishing and walkover surveys, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Both roles require strong collaboration with partners and stakeholders, careful planning, and a commitment to improving the River Dee through well-evidenced and well-managed conservation action.

About Us – Welsh Dee Trust The Welsh Dee Trust is a small, specialist environmental charity with the overall objective of a River Dee free of pollution and full of wildlife. The Dee is one of the UK’s most biodiverse rivers and a vital source of drinking water, wildlife habitat and cultural identity for the communities it flows through.

Key Responsibilities

Project Managers

Manage the planning and delivery of assigned projects within our programmes
Oversee staff, volunteers, consultants and delivery partners
Manage project budgets, procurement and risk registers
Ensure all health and safety procedures are implemented and monitored
Develop and manage capital and non-capital interventions
Ensure interventions are based on best available scientific and policy knowledge
Maintain strong relationships with project partners and stakeholders
Deliver timely reporting to the Head of Project Delivery & Monitoring
Ensure compliance with all funder and monitoring requirements

Project Officers

Work with landowners, fishing clubs and stakeholders across the catchment
Identify, scope and deliver habitat and water quality improvement projects
Manage elements of capital interventions, including procurement of contractors
Ensure health and safety procedures are followed by contractors
Conduct monitoring activities (e.g. electrofishing, walkover surveys)

What We’re Looking For

Essential (for both roles, with expectations scaled to role seniority):

Experience in delivering environmental or conservation projects
Strong organisational and project management skills
Understanding of river ecosystems, such as fisheries, hydromorphology, water quality or community engagement
Ability to build positive relationships with landowners, partners and volunteers
Clear and confident communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Commitment to improving freshwater ecosystems

Desirable:

Welsh language skills
GIS experience
Experience with monitoring techniques (e.g. electrofishing, habitat surveys)
Knowledge of CDM (Construction, Design & Management) Regulations
